ERTICO is pleased to announce that KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) at the University of Cyprus has joined its Partnership. KIOS CoE is a leading research and innovation center in Cyprus and the region on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Since its establishment in 2008, the Center has followed an impressive and continuous development, leading to its significant upgrade to a European Research Center of Excellence through the EU strategic Horizon 2020 Teaming project in 2017. The Center collaborates strategically with Imperial College, London, as well as with a plethora of local and international research organizations and other stakeholders.
The Center provides an inspiring environment for carrying out top-level research in the area of ICT, with emphasis on the Monitoring, Control, Management and Security of Critical Infrastructures, including power and energy systems, water, transportation and telecommunication networks, healthcare systems, as well as systems for emergency management and response.
KIOS CoE researchers are actively involved in creating intelligent algorithms for monitoring and controlling traffic congestion in urban areas, developing methods for controlling connected autonomous vehicles CAVs as well as detecting cyber-attacks against vehicles. These efforts aim to enhance the efficiency of transportation systems by reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and emissions, while simultaneously improving road safety.
The ERTICO Partnership bridges the gaps between stakeholders across the ITS community to help make mobility safer, more efficient, and sustainable. Together, we lead the digital transformation of transport through the development of cutting-edge technologies, new services and innovative mobility solutions to move people and goods in smarter ways. Our Partners share the joint mission to actively promote sustainable collaborative relations with EU institutions and policymakers by connecting local and regional transport organisations with national authorities.
Joost Vantomme, CEO of ERTICO, shares his welcoming message, “We are pleased to welcome a KIOS, a Cyprus body, to the ERTICO Partnership. Innovation is at the heart of what we do at ERTICO, and KIOS will bring an added value with their multidisciplinary research in ICT. We share the vision to facilitate and deploy smart mobility solutions by developing impactful projects with like-minded stakeholders across the broader mobility ecosystem. We look forward to the very fruitful cooperation ahead.”
KIOS’ expertise in ICT related to critical infrastructure monitoring and control, connected and autonomous vehicles, traffic congestion management, and cybersecurity in vehicles, aligns well with ERTICO’s mission to promote intelligent mobility in Europe and beyond.
“As an ERTICO partner, KIOS CoE can benefit from tailored co-funded project opportunities, get insights on market trends, have access to ERTICO’s range of exclusive services, broaden horizons with international collaboration, network with other mobility pioneers, and raise its scientific profile internationally. Through this partnership, KIOS CoE will bring research closer to industry, by developing and implementing innovative solutions to address today’s challenges related to transportation”, says KIOS Deputy Director, Prof. Christos Panayiotou.
Joining the ERTICO Partnership is an important way to connect the dots between different sectors across our complex ecosystem. The Partnership enables close collaboration between stakeholders by coordinating the planning and deployment of intelligent transport systems and smart mobility solutions in Europe and beyond.
