Malta has launched a public consultation for citizens to provide feedback on the country’s National Transport Strategy, and Transport Master Plan.

It is the first time the country has presented a national transport plan for public consultation.

The National Transport Strategy looks forward to 2050 with a vision to provide an efficient, inclusive, safe, integrated and reliable sustainable transport system.

The Transport Master Plan sets out a number of concrete measures that Malta will implement to 2025.

It addresses issues like traffic congestion, air quality, safety and public transport reliability and proposes measures to incentivise sustainable and greener transport to make towns and cities more liveable.

The plan proposes 29 major road projects; infrastructure to promote cycling and other healthy commuting patterns; investment in port facilities; and longer term project studies like the Malta-Gozo permanent link and a mass rapid transport system.

‘Every member of society is highly encouraged to contribute to this important exercise which will determine the future transport trends of the Maltese Islands,’ a spokesperson for Transport Malta said.
