In a momentous gathering during the ITS Andalucía Day on Tuesday 4 June, the Spanish Host Committee and ERTICO – ITS Europe convened at the Consejería de Fomento to deliberate on the next steps for the 16th ITS European Congress in Seville, 2-4 June 2025, and presenting the important forthcoming projects running.
This event signified a major milestone in the meticulous preparation, for the ITS European Congress in Seville as the Host City. It was an excellent opportunity for signing the detailed cooperation agreement between ERTICO – ITS Europe, ITS Spain and the City of Seville, represented by CONTURSA, the right arm of the Hon. Seville City Council for the promotion, development and management of events in Seville.
In this sense, the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has declared that “It is a great honour that ERTICO has set its eyes on Seville to organise the 16th European ITS Congress and therefore turn the city into the capital of Sustainable Mobility. I wish all participants a very successful meeting and that they can also see first-hand the great advances that Seville is making in terms of mobility.”
CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe, Joost Vantomme amplified this newly minted cooperation, “With one year ahead of the congress, we are pleased to reinforce the collaboration and valuable commitment of all parties involved. The stage now is set for an innovative and impactful Congress in the vibrant city of Seville. This a unique event for all stakeholders in Europe and we are grateful for establishing this strong cooperation with the Host Committee and project team, showing great support of organising the ITS European Congress in Seville next year.”
General Secretary of ITS Spain, Jaime Huerta said, “ITS Spain is a non-profit Association founded in 2002 with the objective of bringing together the public, private and academic sectors related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), to make the mobility of people and goods safer, more sustainable and more efficient. through different modes of transportation. ITS Spain is committed to making known, collaborating and promoting the next ITS European Congress, which will undoubtedly be a great event for Spain, Europe and the world.”
Notable decisions were made during the meeting, including planning of the first open day and the official launch of the Congress which is to take place on 25th June, hosted at the City Hall with the esteemed presence of the City Mayor, the Host Committee chaired by the Ministry of the Interior through the DGT, Ms Ana Luz Jiménez, ITS Spain Chairman, Mr Sebastián de la Rica, ERTICO – ITS EUROPE CEO, Joost Vantomme, and numerous prominent ITS Spanish stakeholders.
Additionally, it was decided that the Programme Committee will meet for the first time on 28th June in Brussels. This marks the beginning of the comprehensive programme development, ensuring a wide array of insightful and pioneering presentations that will drive the discourse under the theme ‘Clean, Resilient and Sustainable Mobility’.
With the groundwork firmly in place and strong cooperation between all involved parties, the ITS European Congress is set to be an exceptional event. It promises to be a significant platform for showcasing cutting-edge innovations and fostering impactful discussions that will shape the future of intelligent transportation systems. The city of Seville and the Andalusian Region will provide an ideal backdrop for next year’s Congress, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from Europe and beyond.
