Started in January 2021, the European project STORM is investigating transformation and structural changes in freight and logistics business operations from different perspectives. In particular, the project is focusing on future challenges and requirements of the sector by developing new procedures and tools to support digitalisation, sustainability transition, and future policy requests.
STORM will look at innovative solutions based on zero emission vehicles, with the aim to support the transition of the transport sector towards a sustainable freight future, for both private and public stakeholders.
In the first months of its activities, STORM focused on reviewing the state of the art of freight and logistics Big Data sources and best practices for data collection and management to support future tools and models development, as well as policy recommendations. In addition, it is preparing for the next steps of a stakeholders’ consultation with online surveys that will be shared in the upcoming weeks.
STORM is coordinated by ERTICO Partner VTT – Technical Research Centre of Finland – with the support of three European research centres including Chalmers University. Within the project, ERTICO will organise workshops to identify gaps and priorities on specific research questions and indicators identified in the future steps of the project. ERTICO will also contribute to revise and expand the findings to elaborate recommendations.
