HERE is partnering with Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) to provide always up-to-date, real-time traffic, weather and fuel price information for the drivers of Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Sportback, Outlander and Outlander Sport models in the US.
In the US, HERE has access to information from 100,000 gas stations to help people choose those with the best fuel price. The system also provides weather updates every 30 seconds.
Real-time traffic information from HERE is available on over 330,000 miles of local US roads, which is four times more than comparable products.
All of this information is available to the driver through Mitsubishi Motors’ infotainment system and can be easily accessed by using the controls in the steering wheel or on the viewing touchscreen.
We send information to the driver ten times faster than the standard speed available in the market. We can do this by combining our fast computational engine with our HD Radio technology, which has the bandwidth to transmit more data at a faster speed than conventional methods.
What’s the difference with HERE Auto?
All carmakers are gearing up for their next generation cars, which will be connected and, in a more distant future, could be driverless.
With Mitsubishi you can enjoy already now part of that innovation: with our HD Radio technology you get fast, advanced services like real-time traffic, weather forecasts and fuel prices.
However, in the future, when cars are connected to the Internet we can provide additional services.
Additionally, getting information from the cloud is only part of the story. In fact, the cars themselves would provide, through accurate and pervasive sensors, data that could help people drive more safely. For example, an active windshield wiper on all the cars on the same street would indicate heavy rain and alert approaching drivers to be more careful.
Aggregating collective behaviour, such as how drivers approach a dangerous curve, in different situations, would help HERE create not only highly precise maps but with that human touch necessary for a more comfortable driverless experience.
With today’s announcement Mitsubishi is joining Honda, Acura, Audi, Garmin, Verizon, Bing, Yahoo! and SiriusXM Satellite Radio as one of our US partners.
This is part of our mission to give people a smarter, safer and more enjoyable driving experience every day.
