On Friday 23 October, the ERTICO Academy offered an interactive training session to the city of Gaziantep in Turkey. This is the fourth training taking place in Turkey in the last month, after the training offered already to the cities of Izmir, Ankara and Bursa.
The training focused on development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and their links to traffic management as presented by key ERTICO experts Dr Johanna Tzanidaki Director of Innovation and Development (I&D), Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in cities presented by Senior Manager Vladimir Vorotovic, sustainable urban mobility and intelligent transport systems (ITS) presented by Deputy Director of I &D, Zeljko Jeftic.
Real-life case studies of how these initiatives are being implemented were presented by ERTICO partners. Jos van Vlerken presented how cycling makes part of traffic management in Copenhagen, Patrick Deknudt from the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic presented the smart tunnel diversion service on the Antwerp ring road, which tries to efficiently manage the spread of traffic. This is part of the European SOCRATES 2.0 project. Laura Lassila from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency discussed the Finnish model for using data in the context of MaaS.
Zeljko Jeftic commented ‘Despite the current challenges, ERTICO is further reinforcing its work with the ERTICO Academy by sharing best practices for how urban mobility stakeholders can adapt their current transport and mobility. It was a highly beneficial experience for ERTICO, our partners and our team of specialised trainers and we stand ready to support the city of Gaziantep, and all other stakeholders, in the next steps of their transport and mobility evolution’.
