The southern French city of Toulouse is set to open its third metro line in a € 1.7bn project that will carry a potential 200 000 passengers a day.

The new line, which is expected to be 20-25km long, will serve the major economic poles in the Toulouse region’s aeronautical, space and digital industries.

The Syndicat mixte des transports en commun (SMTC), more commonly known as Tisséo, has established a steering committee to deliver the project.

This group includes representatives from government, the Midi-Pyrénées region, Haute-Garonne council, the Toulouse Chamber of Commerce, Airbus Group and Toulouse-Blagnac airport.
A public consultation and preliminary studies will be conducted in 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, operational studies and a public inquiry will take place. The project is set for completion in 2024.
