Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Yunex Traffic a £200m contract to install and maintain traffic signal assets across 21 of London’s 32 Boroughs and the City of London. Covering the maintenance of more than 4,000 traffic signal sites, 91 variable message signs (VMS), and 30 over-height vehicle detector sites, the contract also includes the design, supply and installation of new infrastructure.
The contract will run for a period of up to ten years and builds on the work that Yunex Traffic has undertaken for TfL for more than a quarter of a century, but now adding a number of new boroughs, including Westminster. It will ensure that the infrastructure is operating safely, effectively and efficiently, as well as supporting the Mayor of London’s Vision Zero aims of reducing emissions, mitigating the impact of climate change and that by 2041, nobody is killed or seriously injured on the city’s roads and 80% of all journeys will be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport.
Carl Eddleston, TfL’s Director of Network Management and Resilience, said: “London’s road network plays a vital role in enabling millions of journeys each day, and we’re determined to ensure that people can walk, cycle, take the bus and drive as safely and efficiently as possible. We’re delighted to have signed this new customer focused and greener contract with Yunex Traffic and Telent Technology which will ensure that infrastructure across London is well installed and maintained for years to come.”
Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Yunex Traffic in the UK, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our maintenance work across London. Having worked closely with colleagues at TfL over a long period, we have developed a deep understanding of the requirements of this unique traffic environment, and look forward to helping keep the city’s road network operating safely and efficiently and improving the air quality for those who live, visit, study and work there. “
“Bringing a wealth of experience and depth of expertise, our teams will not only be maintaining existing assets, but also installing new ones, drawing on our latest UK-made innovations, to deliver performance, economic and environmental benefits for London’s road users”.
