The regional government of Tuscany, municipal governments in the Florence metropolitan area and public transport companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to encourage residents to use public transport over private vehicles.
‘We want to make getting around in Tuscany simpler for citizens, business, and visitors in line with the new Integrated Regional Plan for Infrastructure and Mobility,’ said Vincenzo Ceccarelli, the Tuscany Region’s councillor for infrastructure and transport.
‘With a team effort which focuses on technology, co-ordination and integrated actions by all partners, we can guarantee citizens the right to transport which is more flexible, accessible, and environmentally friendly, while also giving high quality service.’
Some of the smart mobility solutions foreseen by the MoU are smart mobility solutions such as electronic ticketing and real-time traffic information delivered through a mobile app, at public transport stops and in vehicles.
The organisations involved will also work on involving stakeholders such as trade associations, trade unions, public and private companies, and schools and universities to promote the use of bicycles, electric vehicles and car-sharing.
