Last week SAFE STRIP participated at the ITS World Congress which took place from 17-21 September in Copenhagen, Denmark with the theme “Quality of Life”. The 25th World Congress was an exceptional event with more than 10 000 participants from over 100 countries showcasing and discussing the latest innovation in the field of transport and mobility.
Erwin Vermassen, SAFE STRIP project coordinator and senior manager at ERTICO – ITS Europe presented the SAFE STRIP project in two occasions, during a technical paper session and at the ERTICO-ITS Europe booth in the exhibition area.
Erwin presented the technical paper “User – centred approach for C-ITS solution proof of concept “ written by SAFE STRIP partner Maria Gemou of Hellenic Institute of Transport, Greece in a technical paper session entitled “V2X Solutions & Concepts”. Erwin’s presentation focused on the iterative user-centred approach that has been followed for the prioritisation and full definition of the Use Cases of a revolutionary C-ITS integrated technological solution newly introduced in SAFE STRIP. The presentation received a lot of positive interest and feedback and was very well attended.
On the same afternoon, Silvia Capato of another SAFE STRIP partner Swarco Mizar also filled a room with participants with her technical presentation of a paper Intelligent Road Marking Systems enabling future connected mobility in session Traffic Management and Connected Infrastructure 1. In her presentation Silvia talked about the importance of cost when it comes to applying the V2I/I2V infrastructure required for deployment of C-ITS technologies. Silvia described the added value of the intelligent road marking system that are being developed within SAFE STRIP which will (i) support real-time predictive road maintenance functions through dynamic road embedded sensors inputs, (ii) reduce the overall the infrastructure operational installation and maintenance costs and (iii) allow faster, more position specific and context oriented communication and data sharing between vehicle and infrastructure.
Several participants including the French infrastructure body, were interested in more details about SAFE STRIP especially about the type of sensors used for the road strips.
Besides the technical presentation, SAFE STRIP was also invited for a presentation at the ERTICO – ITS Europe booth on Thursday afternoon. The presentation was again done by Erwin Vermassen, ERTICO-ITS Europe who presented the SAFE STRIP revolutionary intelligent road marking system to the audience inside the exhibition hall. Several SAFE STRIP brochures were handed out to interested participants which mostly included Transportation Safety field managers and university researchers.
