At SWARCO, we strive to engage early with our customers to offer end-to-end solutions, which is why when Derbyshire County Council wanted to implement a new cloud-based Urban Traffic Management Control system which integrates seamlessly with their newly supplied CCTV cameras, we were able to offer them our MyCity UTMC (formerly known as ImCity) solution.
MyCity UTMC is designed to provide flexible and open integration, allowing many different road assets such as Variable Message Signs (VMS) and CCTV cameras to be combined into one Graphical User Interface. This allows a sophisticated means of strategically managing a large road network as it continuously gathers and analyses traffic data from a wide range of devices to build a comprehensive and detailed view of traffic behaviour.
This allows for any changes in traffic patterns to be identified and Operators alerted to incidents in real time, allowing prompt changes to the traffic signal strategy. The integrated CCTV data gives a visual verification of the levels of congestion at a junction and determines how well a particular action has affected the traffic conditions.
Derbyshire County Council now have video wall which displays MyCity UTMC so they can remotely monitor and control their road network helping to alleviate congestion and keep traffic moving smoothly.
As part of the SWARCO two-day MyCity UTMC User Group, customers were invited to a tour of Derbyshire County Council’s newly built Highways Hub. Demonstrations included showcasing the 5m wide video wall, a closer look into the MyCity UTMC platform and how Derbyshire County Council can effectively manage CCTV, Bus Information and VMS across the county.
Alongside a tour of the Highways Hub, the event was a great opportunity for SWARCO to update customers on the latest MyCity UTMC developments, capture feedback to help drive strategies over the next 12 months and deliver training sessions on VMS and display our latest CCTV model.

Discussions have been valuable and will help us to further develop our strategic roadmap over the next 12 months. A big thanks to Derbyshire County Council as well for inviting us and customers into their Highways Hub for a deep dive session into their systems”
Neil Bennett, Highways Strategy Manager at Derbyshire County Council, said “Being able to host the two-day event at our newly built Highways Hub was a great way of showing guests around the new facility and also demonstrating how the management of our road network has been elevated by the deployment of SWARCO’s MyCity UTMC software.”
SWARCO will be further demonstrating Urban Traffic Management Control capabilities within a demo control room environment at Traffex from 14-16th June 2022 at the NEC in Birmingham. If you’d like to come and talk to us or pre-book your control room visit, then please get in touch with the team.
