Over three days from 19 – 21 May, the Andalusian City of Seville became the epicentre of experiencing intelligent transport and smart mobility solutions first-hand at the 16th ITS European Congress. As organiser, we were pleased to welcome over 3,000 participants from more than 70 countries, 150 sessions, and over 140 exhibitors – all sharing the joint commitment to accelerate solutions and services focusing on clean, resilient, and connected mobility.
From compelling technical content to high-level policy dialogues, this edition went beyond showcasing innovation – it demonstrated its real-world impact with practical solutions ready for deployment today. Through the exhibition, technical visits, and live demonstrations, participants witnessed how innovative solutions and new mobility services evolve from pilots and experimental initiatives to everyday, tangible applications in the transport network.

“The 16th ITS European Congress was an outstanding edition in an exceptional setting, thanks to the invaluable support of our Spanish Host Committee – the City of Seville, the Ministries of Transport and the Interior, DGT, the Government of Andalucía, and ITS Spain – as well as our sponsors, partners, speakers, attendees, and the ERTICO team. Muchas gracias,” says Joost Vantomme, ERTICO CEO.
Reinforcing the mission towards Clean, Resilient & Connected Mobility
Central to this event was a strong emphasis on cross-sector and cross-border collaboration to drive Europe’s mobility transformation. This reflects again the common goal to connect stakeholders, foster knowledge exchange, and accelerate a more integrated, user-centric mobility ecosystem across the continent.
The active contribution of our Partners, European projects, innovation platforms, as well as the European Commission, 23 National ITS organisations, and more than 50 stakeholder associations, underscored the collective strength of coordinated action in addressing today’s complex transport challenges.
Congress summary with key highlights
The European Programme Committee assembled an ambitious Conference Programme with an impressive quality of topics and speakers. From cross-border CCAM collaboration and AI-driven traffic management to real-time infrastructure monitoring and enhanced safety strategies for vulnerable road users, each session touched upon the practical, scalable innovations that are already influencing tomorrow’s transport systems.
In the high-level programme, three impactful plenary sessions took place, each highlighting the essential role of governance in enabling the future of smart mobility: green shifts, resilience and leadership. Together, these sessions underscored a clear message: achieving sustainable, resilient, and inclusive mobility requires smart governance as much as smart technology.
Alongside the Programme, the debut of the ITS Arena in the exhibition hall captivated the audience in a dynamic space. The sessions offered insightful dialogue and knowledge exchange, dedicated to bridging the knowledge gap between high-level and technical presentations. The Smart Mobility Summit of Cities & Regions
Held on the morning of the opening day, the Smart Mobility Summit of Cities and Regions convened over 70 high-level city and regional leaders, including representatives from 16 Mission Cities.
The Summit focused on key urban mobility priorities such as inclusive access, electrification, data integration, and the governance of emerging air mobility services. This year’s Summit once again demonstrated a shared commitment to accelerating the deployment of safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions in urban areas – an ambition actively supported through initiatives such as the City Moonshot and our broad portfolio of EU-funded projects. Among many, we met with representatives from DGT, CTAG, Monotch, Miovision, SWARCO, Google Maps, ASIN, T-Systems, ISBAK, Seville City Council, and concluded at ITS Spain.
“As a yearly tradition of the ITS Congresses, the ERTICO Partner Tour is a powerful reminder of the depth of collaboration and shared vision within our ERTICO Partnership. Engaging directly with our Partners and witnessing their innovations in action reinforces our shared commitment to shaping the future of sustainable and smart mobility together.” — Agne Vaitekenaite, Head of Partnership & Advocacy, ERTICO – ITS Europe.
Closing Reflections: Progress through Collaboration
At the Congress’s conclusion, Chief Rapporteur Prof. Eric Sampson offered a rousing call to action in his closing remarks, reaffirming that the path ahead demands urgency, cooperation, and collective purpose. As highlighted throughout the Congress, success lies not just in exchanging ideas but in co-creating real, scalable solutions.
“In Seville, we saw more than innovation – we saw determination. The path forward is no longer about what we can create, but how swiftly we can deliver it. The ITS community must lead with conviction (or purpose): not just smarter mobility, but fairer, safer, and shared. Now is the time,” concluded Prof. Eric Sampson, Chief Rapporteur.
