In the framework of an ECO-driving Seminar today, the IRU presented the key benefits of the ECOeffect project, which aims to develop an environmentally aware “Train the Trainer” programme and professional driving technique courses to optimise fuel consumption, thus reducing CO2 emissions and transport operators’ costs. Supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEEE) agency, ECOeffect has trained more than 78 trainers and 1,600 drivers since the start of courses in March 2012, resulting in post training average fuel consumption savings of 12%, therefore helping the road transport industry achieve its objective of 30% CO2 reduction by 2030.
The Seminar, co-organised with the Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association (LINAVA) and project partners, was attended by some 80 participants from 17 countries representing the road transport industry, public authorities and specialised press.
