SIMBA II aims to increase road transport research cooperation between Europe and the emerging markets of Brazil China India Russia and South Africa building on the network established in the first SIMBA project by bringing together key stakeholders in the fields of the automotive industry ITS and infrastructure. The first SIMBA project which ran from March 2006 to February 2008 initiated road transport cooperation between the EU and Brazil China India and South Africa and served to establish contacts with relevant local stakeholders and jointly establish country priorities and common interests.
The objectives of SIMBA II are to increase road safety mobility and transport efficiency through the exchange of technological know-how and best practices.
The Sino-European Workshop which will take place on Monday 26 October 2009 will involve stakeholders in the area of ITS from China and Europe to discuss the requirements for cooperation between Europe and China in Research and Development of ITS technologies and services. Key topics for cooperation to be covered in the workshop include mitigation of environmental impacts from road transport improvements in traveller information provision and traffic safety. The key objective of the workshop is to formulate specific recommendations and contribute to the European Commission’s research agenda.
