Yesterday, Tuesday 28 November marked a pivotal moment for the European Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) community as the Plenary of the National ITS Associations meeting unfolded at the ERTICO – ITS Europe offices in Brussels. The day provided strategic dialogues and innovative ideas, solidifying the commitment of ERTICO and the members of ITS Nationals Network towards a more sustainable and intelligent mobility future across Europe. Connecting the dots with the ITS Nationals Network of more than 30 organisations is a true win-win for the deployment of smart and sustainable transport & mobility services. 

The day commenced with welcoming remarks by the Chair, Guenther Weber and Vice Chair, Dónal Hodgins who set the scene for a series of strategic dialogues following his presentation on the cooperation efforts. ERTICO is pleased to take part in the opportunity to co-steer synergies and synchronisation.  

Participants also had the opportunity to hear more details about the upcoming ITS World Congress, taking place in Dubai, UAE from 16-20 September 2024. Briefed by Lisa Boch-Andersen, Director of Communications, Congresses and Events at ERTICO, the ITS Congress will feature dynamic discussions in a high-level –and technical programme with over 200 technical sessions and a vibrant exhibition and demonstration area.  

Adding another layer to the Plenary meeting, Joost Vantomme, ERTICO CEO, updated ITS Nationals representatives on key trends and developments in the field of technologies, and policies as well as the Partnership’s dedication to stretch boundaries of innovation. Following his presentation, Vladimir Vorotovic, Director of Innovation & Deployment at ERTICO, discussed ERTICO’s work on European Projects, showcasing the impact of collective efforts on a broader scale. 

The international cooperation spirit was particularly noteworthy as the day concluded. In particular, the shared vision of creating a more sustainable and smarter mobility future resonated strongly among all participants. Looking ahead, Marc Verhage, Vice Chairman of ITS Connekt briefed participants on the forthcoming ITS Plenary, set to take place at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2024. Next year will also mark a significant milestone for the ITS National Network as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. As Joost Vantomme concluded: having the synch with our friends of the Network of National ITS Associations is providing us with the magic formula: 1+1=3
