Henrik Hololei, Director-General for Mobility and Transport met with ERTICO’s Supervisory Board on May 3rd 2017 in Brussels.
Mr Hololei focused the discussion on the opportunities and potential risks of digitalising transport.
“Digitalisation is a tool, not an end” stated Mr. Hololei. Digitalisation and big data are making transport more efficient. However, it is important to talk about the wider benefits of transport digitalisation such as environment, road safety and congestion improvement. Mr. Hololei stressed the need for stronger integration of digital technologies in transport.
When talking about future developments, Mr. Hololei referred to the five year extension of the ITS Directive in order to strengthen and finalise the acceleration of ITS across Europe. Mr. Hololei also talked about one of the latest hot topics – Mobility as a Service (MaaS) – highlighting the smart cloud access to data as one of the key elements necessary to make MaaS a reality.
