This year, the European community of mobility infrastructure providers, cities and authorities will benefit from a brand new European-funded project: 5GMETA, coordinated by an ERTICO Partner, Vicomtech. This project will leverage car-captured data to stimulate, facilitate and feed innovative products and services that will empower the automotive ecosystem and beyond, while 5G-LOGINNOV will reduce emissions, synchronise 5G in “intelligent” approaches to the management, routing and optimisation in port areas and use a secure information sharing infrastructure.
As data becomes an even more valuable and strategic asset in many domains, especially in the automotive industry, ERTICO announces the start of a brand new European-funded project that will expand 5G network functions for the deployment of connected and automated mobility applications: 5GMETA.
“The 5GMETA open platform aims to leverage car-captured data to stimulate, facilitate and feed with them innovative products and services. The result of 5GMETA will empower the automotive ecosystem from industry players to new entrants, such as SMEs and high-tech start-ups granting access to interoperable car-captured data according to data licenses. The access to data coming from relevant geographical regions will catalyse the generation of new opportunities and business models coming from valuable services, where data liability and billing will rely on accountability dashboard of data flow subscription and volume consumption” said Oihana Otaegui from Vicomtech, coordinator of the project.
“With 5GMETA, ERTICO goes one step further in deploying its 2030 roadmap”, said ERTICO’s I&D Director Johanna Tzanidaki. “Our goal is in fact to increase the availability of connected and automated mobility applications and the value of vehicle data to benefit a wider scope.” she added.
With the project 5GMETA, Vicomtech and ERTICO will contribute along with 10 other Partners to empowering the automotive ecosystem from industry players to new entrants, such as SMEs and high-tech start-ups, granting access to interoperable car-captured data according to data licenses. “The access to data coming from relevant geographical regions will be a catalyst for the generation of new opportunities and business models coming from valuable services, where data liability and billing will rely on the accountability dashboard of dataflow subscription and volume consumption.”, concluded Johanna Tzanidaki.
5GMETA is set to start on 1 September 2020, with a total EU Contribution of € 4,667,765.
5G-LOGINNOV will boost maintenance innovations at ports and logistics hubs operations by involving new market actors, such as SMEs and start-ups, taking advantage of the growing adoption of distributed cloud computing technologies in 5G networks and facilitating open innovation at a service level in the logistics and industry 4.0 sectors. The project will also support and contribute to the emergence of global standards of 5G enabled next generation ports and logistics hubs operation systems to ensure interoperability, platform openness and operation harmonisation around future 5G logistics cross-border corridors.
Through 5G-LOGINNOV, ERTICO will continue its work towards seamless logistics and freight transport, achieving by 2030 the full digitalisation and automation of freight and logistics operations.
