The EU-China Science and Technology Week organised by the European Commission at World EXPO 2010 Shanghai China brought together over 500 leading scientists journalists and representatives of industry academia and government from the European Union and China to share knowledge experience and aspirations. From 15 to 18 June 2010 a highly focused programme of science policy sessions scientific workshops and media briefings at the EU pavilion at the World EXPO site allowed participants to showcase joint achievements exchange success stories and explore new perspectives and collaboration opportunities between European and Chinese research organisations focusing on the Shanghai Expo’s theme of “Better City Better Life”.
Two ERTICO coordinated FP7 projects SIMBA II and Viajeo were invited to present at the event as ‘success stories’ of EU-China cooperation. Dr Yanying Li from ERTICO presented the SIMBA II project and gave a presentation to media on the title of “EU-China Cooperation in road transport research: leading the way”. The Viajeo project was presented at the event by Francesco Della Casa from Thetis S.p.A the Viajeo Beijing demo site leader. His presentation was entitled “Clear road ahead: International demonstrations of transport planning and travel information platform”. Both presentations were received by over 50 journalists from China and EU. Following the presentations questions were asked by journalists at the scene. Yanying was interviewed by a number of media including Xinhua News Agency. Questions were on ERTICO activities in China current trends of European ITS development and implementation and future opportunities of cooperation between EU and China.
