In order to exchange information on FOTs and data sharing, the FOT-Net Data project held an International Workshop in Bordeaux on Monday 5 October, right before the opening ceremony of the ITS World Congress 2015.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Representatives from MLIT and Nagoya University (Japan), the European Commission, as well as different industry and research organisations, made it possible to address data sharing opportunities and challenges from different angles.
The focus was on the data generated in FOTs related to ITS in general and connected vehicles trials in particular. Panellists and attendees discussed together how lessons learned from FOTs concerning data ownership, personal data and anonymisation could be used in the deployment phase.
Presentations included examples from FOTs carried out in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Moreover, attendees were distributed in three working groups discussing the following questions:
- How can lessons learned from FOTs concerning data ownership, personal data and anonymisation be used in the deployment phase?
- How to deal with research versus operational data?
- How can stakeholders profit from international sharing of data and experiences from FOTs and pilots?
- Which research areas or specific questions need to be answered to enable and facilitate deployment, and can analysis of existing FOT datasets provide some of the answers?
These interactive discussions allow FOT-Net Data partners to learn from stakeholders experience and demands and create fit-for-purpose data sharing tools such as the FOT-Net Data Wiki.
