The Commission decided to send letters of formal notice to Germany, Italy, Latvia and the Netherlands urging these Member States to comply with the common European rules on driving licences (Directive 2006/126/EC as amended). Annex I of the Directive determines how restrictions to the licence (e.g. the requirement to wear glasses) and other additional information should be displayed on the licence.
National measures in Germany, Italy, Latvia and the Netherlands, however, run contrary to some of those requirements. The 4 Member States now have two months to respond to the arguments raised by the Commission; the Commission may otherwise decide to send a reasoned opinion.
