February 25 2013 -The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) has recently selected John Miles PhD as Technical Editor for a new Web-based Resource on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Dr. Miles is a transportation policy analyst with more than 40 years of experience in transportation planning research and policy development.

ITS America on behalf of the ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) is overseeing the development of the ITS content of the Road Network Operations (RNO) ITS Web Resource to be published in partnership with the World Road Association (PIARC) on the PIARC website. 

The purpose of this ITS Web Resource is to provide the current and future international ITS workforce with a web-based teaching and reference tool to assist in decision-making about investments in ITS and related services with attention to the needs of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The PIARC RNO ITS Web Resource is intended to be a series of up-to-date web-based modules that provide a basic introduction to key ITS topics with an international perspective.

As Technical Editor Dr. Miles will oversee the efforts of approximately the web module authors who will write the content for each chapter or component of the Web Resource. Dr. Miles has a wealth of experience with PIARC having first joined the PIARC Technical Committee on Intelligent Transport in 1996 and having served as associate editor of the first edition of the PIARC handbook on ITS published in 1990 and as lead editor for the second 2004 edition.  The 2014 edition seeks to build on past efforts and draw on contemporary technology innovations to make the resource accessible and relevant.

The U.S. DOT is funding the development of the ITS Web Resource which is expected to be completed in mid-2014.
