The UK government has extended by at least two years the grant to subsidise the purchase of electric and other low-emission cars to encourage more motorists to buy greener vehicles.
The original grant was introduced in 2011 and is reported to be responsible for the purchase of about 50 000 low-emission vehicles. Due to expire in February 2016, the grant will now run until March 2018.
The revised grant gives buyers up to £4 500 (€ 5 900) towards cleaner new cars, and will focus on zero-emissions vehicles, no longer subsidising the most expensive hybrids.
