Surely not first but one of the more significant events to present 5G-MOBIX to the ITS community – ITS European Congress – took place from 3 to 6 June 2019 in Eindhoven’s Evoluon centre with various demonstrations and side events in the neighbouring ITS pioneer city Helmond. It was an exciting week for the ITS industry, public authorities, academia and many more with networking and collaboration opportunities but also a congress full of interesting and groundbreaking discussions, presentations and sessions.
5G-MOBIX has been presented at a few big events before such as Mobile World Congress in February or ICT2018 in December few months before. However, this was the first time 5G-MOBIX was presented at the ITS Congress, the largest European event entirely dedicated to smart mobility and digitalisation of transport.
5G-MOBIX had a booth as part of the ERTICO stand in Ring 2 in the Evoluon dome where participants could come and talk to 5G-MOBIX partners and learn what 5G-MOBIX is actually doing. Participants also had the opportunity to see the new 5G-MOBIX video animation which also shows some of the use cases of the project in a clear and fun way.
The ERTICO-ITS Europe stand silent disco stage was an excellent opportunity to present the bottom line of 5G-MOBIX to the participants in a short 20 minute presentation. Two 5G-MOBIX partners João Moutinho of Centro de Computação Gráfica and María de la Torre López, CTAG presented the Spain Portugal cross border corridor representing Portuguese and Spanish part of the team working on the corridor. The also presented several use cases of this specific corridor and their use of 5G.
On Wednesday 5 June, 5G-MOBIX project coordinator – Francois Fischer, ERTICO organised a workshop on 5G deployment for Automated Mobility. The purpose of the workshop was to bring an exchange of views on the vehicle and roadside infrastructure needs for CCAM using 5G. Interesting speakers representing various sectors from car manufactures and services providers included Ralf Weber, Qualcomm, Joachim Goethel, BMW, Edwin Fischer, Deutsche Telekom, Freek van der Valk, Swarco and Markus Dillinger, Huawei
The discussion focused on the vehicle and roadside infrastructure needs and cellular network requirements for deploying 5G technologies and architectures to run trials on national and the cross-border corridors in particular the three 5G for CCAM Innovation Actions (5G-MOBIX, 5G-CROCO, 5G-CARMEN) in the context of cross-border testing. The ITS Congress is over but 5G-MOBIX already prepares for the next event, EUCnC taking place in Valencia from 18 – 21 June 2019.
