Vehicle-to-X (V2X) ad-hoc-communication in real-time is an important building block towards Highly Automated Driving and the realization of Vision Zero – a world without any traffic accidents. Continental’s V2X product solutions support all vehicle architectures as an all-in-one package (V2X-OneBox) as well as a split into V2X Safety Application Electronic Control Unit (V2X-AU) and Communication Unit (V2X-CU). Due to a flexible system architecture consisting of V2X Safety Application Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and Dedicated Short Range Communication Radio (DSRC; IEEE 802.11p standard), Continental provides best in class automotive safety products.
The V2X Onboard Equipment enables safety, efficiency and comfort applications (e.g. Intersection Movement Assist, Electronic Emergency Brake Light, Roadworks Warning …). The system can be complemented by the intelligent localization sensor M2XPro® (Motion Information to X Provider). Fusion of sensor data for speed, steering angle, GNSS and inertial information results in reliable signals and improved accuracy. An integrity measure delivers status information about the sensor system performance and data quality. Position and timing information are essential for V2X communication to detect and evaluate potential threats. This enables a perception, detection and assessment of road obstacles and dangerous situations even before they can be noticed optically.
Continuous research and development since 2006 underline Continental’s commitment to V2X. By active participation in projects like simTD (Safe and Intelligent Mobility – Test Field Germany) and membership in the Car-2-Car Communication Consortium, Continental possesses expertise in all relevant fields.
