The international EU funded project InterCor will hold its first TESTFEST in Dordrecht from July 3 to 6.

In the European project InterCor, involving France, Netherlands, UK and Belgium, existing and new Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) services are being upgraded and tested along specific ‘corridors’ to ensure interoperability across borders. Over the coming months, the testing will be carried out across all four EU Member States, with the first open TESTFEST set to take place in the Netherlands from July 3-6.

This first TESTFEST, focusing on ITS-G5 services, is co-organised by the InterCor project together with Dutch partners of the C-ITS Corridor www.its-corridor.nl.

TESTFEST participants will test state-of-the-art ITS services in real-world conditions on the A16 motorway near Dordrecht. The motorway is equipped with roadside units broadcasting safety relevant information related to road-works, allowing the on-board units installed in the participants’ cars to alert the drivers of potentially hazardous traffic situations.

The main objective of this event is to validate the international interoperability of ITS equipment from different countries and vendors with the aim of enhancing road safety in Europe.

Ronald Adams, InterCor project coordinator, says: “The findings of this TESTFEST and other InterCor TESTFESTs will contribute to the elaboration of harmonised deployment specifications in the C-Roads Platform (www.c-roads.eu). In this respect InterCor will contribute to the roll-out of seamless and interoperable C-ITS services across Europe”.

InterCor

InterCor is a 3 year project of 30 million Euros co-financed by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Programme; it will enable vehicles and the related road infrastructure to communicate data through cellular, ITS-G5 or a combination of cellular and ITS-G5 (hybrid) networks on road corridors through the Netherlands, Belgium, UK and France to achieve safer, more efficient and more convenient mobility for people and goods.

Netherlands ITS Corridor

The Cooperative ITS Corridor project – a co-operation of Germany, Austria and the Netherlands – will provide two cooperative ITS services on the Rotterdam-Frankfurt-Vienna corridor. In the Netherlands this includes the route between Rotterdam and Germany, via Dordrecht, Breda, Tilburg, Eindhoven and Venlo (motorways A16, A58, A2 and A67). The busy and highly developed road network in the Netherlands provides an excellent setting to develop and implement large-scale intelligent mobility in Europe. Initially, two services will be provided: Road Works Warning and Probe Vehicle Data. A supplementary service is also being developed in the Netherlands: Collision Risk Warning.
