Four European cities presented their bid to host the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in 2021. The City of Hamburg was selected by the ERTICO – ITS Europe Supervisory Board as the host for the 28th edition of the ITS World Congress. The official announcement of Hamburg winning the bid was made on 31 October 2017 during the ITS World Congress in Montreal, Canada. The 28th ITS World Congress, is set to take place in the refurbished Congress Centre in Hamburg (CCH) in October 2021 with the four focal themes “automated and connected driving”, MaaS – Mobility as a service”, “Ports and Logistics” as well as “intelligent infrastructure”.

“We are excited to officially announce that the City of Hamburg will host the 28th ITS World Congress in 2021; Hamburg had an exceptional proposal which highlighted the incredible developments of the city in finding smart mobility solutions through their ITS strategic plan. The City of Hamburg presents itself with the claim “COS it’s Hamburg – City of Solutions”, and together with a delegation of high level executives from Volkswagen Group, ITS Deutschland and Hermes GmbH visited the ERTICO premises on 15 March to show support to the City of Hamburg and officially hand over the bid to host the 28th ITS World Congress in 2021. Already at the beginning of the process, the Hamburg’s ITS World Congress 2021 bid received the support of over 100 partners in Europe, including national government, local authorities, and the ITS National Associations.

The announcement was officialised at the presence of Frank Horch, Senator for Economy, Transport and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and Harry Evers, Managing Director of ITS Deutschland GmbH.

Senator Frank Horch: “We are very proud of hosting the World Congress in 2021. The City of Hamburg is very ambitions and wants to become Germany’s model city for urban mobility and logistics solutions. Thanks to all who supported our bid. We will work hard to confirm your confidence”.

ERTICO – ITS Europe will now start working with the City of Hamburg and all the other interested parties to define the programme of over 300 sessions.
