Polis has been working on the topic of open transport data within its Traffic Efficiency & Mobility Working Group for more than 18 months. The aim of this activity has been to share information among Polis members on local experiences of publishing transport data, lessons learned and future plans.
The knowledge shared has enabled Polis to gain new insight to the fast evolving area of open data and has enabled us to produce informed recommendations to the European Commission in relation to future European action in the area of transport data – specifically the ITS Directive.
The Polis position paper provides an overview of the many different aspects of transport data – why transport authorities use data; access to data; open data experiencies; data formats and data quality. The paper concludes with recommendations to the European Commission in relation to the ITS Directive.
