The BigDataEurope project has set up a survey identifying current and future challenges for Big data and data management in the seven H2020 societal challenge topics. The primary objective of the survey will be to elicit requirements for the big data integrator platform. Followed by a focus on reviewing the architecture for prototype implementation, and platform evaluation and showcasing, in the second and third year.

The planned BigDataEurope platform will offer to the interested participating third parties the opportunities of the latest European RTD developments, including real-time streaming, multilingual data harvesting, data analytics and data visualisation. The broad targeted survey will investigate on how this development should be shaped to the specific pre-conditions and needs in sectors like Transport, Health, Pharma, Climate, Energy, Agriculture, Well-being, Society and Security.

BigDataEurope project asks for participation in this survey before the end of June.

About BigDataEurope:

BigData Europe, Integrating Big Data, Software & Communities for Addressing Europe’s Societal Challenges, is a CSA action under H2020 programme. It run for the period January 2015 up to December 2017.

To push the use of data technologies within selected European societal key sectors including the transport sector, BigDataEurope will provide support mechanisms impacting all major aspects of a data value chain, in terms of used data and technology assets, the participating roles and the established or evolving process.

BigDataEurope aims to develop an adaptable, easy to deploy end use solution, which will allow intererested stakeholder groups to extend their Big Data solutions or introduce Big Data technologies to their business processes. All European stakeholders will be able to use a platform based on a concrete methodology for producing technically sound solutions and maximizing their outreach to their relevant communties.

More specifically, BigDataEurope will:

· build a network of stakeholders belonging to the European society key sectors including the transport sector, organise relevant workshops and then launch interest groups to help shape requirements and work charters. The workshops will be covering the whole process of data usage starting from data collection, over to processing, storage and visualisation up to the development of data services.

· design, realise and evaluate a BigDataAggregator Plartform infrastructure that meets the requirements of users from the societal key sectors, minimises the disruption to current workflows, and maximises the opportunties to take advantage of the latest European RTD developments.

The activities in the transport domain will focus in particular on streaming sensor network and geo-spatial data integration.

ERTICO will contribute to the establishment of an active BigDataEurope stakeholder group. ERTICO will organise three workshops focused on the elication of requirements for big data management within the intelligent transport domain, on the alignment and improvement of the specifications, and on the evaluation of project technologies on selected use cases. The first BigDataEurope workshop on elicitation of requirements for big data management will take place at the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux on 7 October 2015 from 8h30 to 13h00. ERTICO will organise a number of webinars, in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, and contribute to monthly hang-outs.

ERTICO conducts the work under subcontract by Frauhofer IAIS.
