In a bid to make transport in and between cities more efficient, Turkey’s government has designed a national strategy to deploy Intelligent Transport Systems in urban areas. Such systems use information and communication technologies to enhance transport safety and efficiency.
Among the provisions in the strategy is the development of electronic ticketing on public transportation vehicles, and a move to increase the provision of passenger information on issues such as delays and traffic congestion.
More environmentally friendly and accessible transport is also considered, with the need to make public transport more suitable to the elderly and disabled highlighted. The strategy will be implemented in consultation with multiple stakeholders, including universities and civil society organisations.
