“Roads as Energetic Crops” is the title of the research work that has received the V International Road Innovation Award, organized by the Foundation of the Spanish Road Association (FAEC). The award ceremony took place on 27 November in Madrid.
The purpose of this research project is to contribute shifting the traditional approach to road infrastructure, promoting new intelligent road infrastructure that can harness and channel the energy produced by road traffic. The research project has been developed by a team of technicians from various public and private organizations, with a common interest in sustainable transport.
Antonio Perez Lepe, Chemical Engineering expert at Repsol’s Technology Centre and lead author of the project, says that “although many may think that roads have barely evolved over time, there is enormous potential for improving the environmental dimension of infrastructures”.
