TNO in the person of Henk Jan Vink,  was elected yesterday as member of the Board of Directors of the Big Data Value Association.

The Association is the partner of the European Commission in the Big Data contractual Public Private Partnership (PPP), which has as goal to boost Big Data Value research and development in Europe.The Commission has earmarked a budget of around €500 million in Horizon 2020. The PPP will start with first projects in 2016 and will run until 2020.

Covering the multidimensional character of Big Data, the PPP activities will address technology and applications development, business model discovery, ecosystem validation, skills profiling, regulatory and IPR environment and social aspects.

By being part of the Board of Directors, TNO will be able to participate actively in defining the European Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, but  will also strengthen the synergies between Big Data initiatives and activities in the Netherlands and the European Agenda.

Next to this involvement at Board level, TNO is also involved in several concrete  taskforces of the PPP, be it policy, applications, societal challenges or support to Web enterpreneurs and SME’s.
